On leaving Bedford Janette started her teaching career at a very small comprehensive upper school in Buntingford, East Hertfordshire in a 2 teacher department. As the school grew in numbers so did the PE department to 5 full time members with Janette as the Head of Department. Throughout this time the school maintained strong links with College and ITT. Despite several thoughts about moving on, Freman College, as it became, remained a draw and in 1987 a Head of House post in an establishment in which the house system is concerned with all things both pastoral and educational became an additional responsibility until in 2005 Janette took up the Partnership Development Manager's role in the North East Herts School Sport Partnership. This latest and possibly last post (!) in a career which spans 32 years allows her to influence and support the development of PE and school sport across first, middle and upper schools which is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference to schools, staff and young people. Janette has maintained a serious interest in hockey as a player, coach and as chair of the Herts Coaching and Youth Committee as well as involvement at Regional level – and continues to ski whenever time and snow allow. Janette has been a member of the BPEOSA Committee since, first as Group Rep from 1986, then as a co-opted member in 1989 as editor of the Old Students' News and then in 2004 as Treasurer following in the footsteps of Irene Glaister.
