After leaving Bedford College of Physical Education, I worked at Rotheram High School, Luton, a large mixed Comprehensive, where I became Head of Department. I was then appointed Lecturer at North Hertfordshire College where I completed an MA in Historical and Cultural Appraisals in Sport and Recreation in 1997. This led to co-authoring my first book 'A Proper Spectacle, Women Olympians 1900-1936' and writing articles about women for the Sydney Olympic Souvenir Programmes. In 2000, I became Senior Lecturer in Physical Education at De Montfort University and then later Principal Lecturer at the University of Bedfordshire. I followed my interest in history to initiate the development of the BPEOSA Archive and, in May 2011, wrote the book 'Big Societies. Bedford Physical Training College During World Wars One and Two' which formed the basis of a production of a film telling the story of Bedford Physical Training College during the two wars.
I have now retired from teaching and have time to pursue my interests, in particular making stained glass windows, yoga and I have even joined a choir! I am a co-opted committee member for BPEOSA Archive matters, a Trustee and member of the Finance Committee
